The Paramount – one of the BEST concert venues in the USA is in Huntington, NY
The Paramount is a very cool old theater, built by A.H. Schwartz and opened in 1927. This grand old movie theater, first called Huntington Theatre, was part of his Century Theaters circuit. For decades, it was one of the top theaters in Suffolk County, NY.
Located in Huntington, Long Island, New York, the theater ran successfully for many years, but the age of the multiplex theater in big shopping centers spelled the demise of Huntington Theatre as a viable movie venue. Following a merger with RKO-Stanley Warner in the mid 1970s, the theater was abandoned.
In 1976, a local dance company looked at the building with plans to revive it for their performances. Sadly, it was in such a state of deterioration and needed so much work that they went broke during the renovations.
Over the next few years, others tried to revive the theater, but failed. Eventually, the Inter-Media Art Center (IMAC), a non-profit group looking for a new facility took over the theater. They completed the work the previous company had been doing. They finally reopened in the spring of 1984.
IMAC was popular with the public, but the overhead was killing them. They moved out in mid-2009. Thankfully, that wasn’t the end of the story!
In the fall of 2011, the building was reopened as the Paramount, a concert venue with seating for more than 1500 people. The renovation cost more than $5 million, but time has shown it was a good investment. The theater, which open with Elvis Costello as the headliner on September 30, 2011, hasn’t looked back.
Since that time, the list of big name stars from country singers like Willie Nelson, to rockers like Billy Joel and Rod Stewart, the blues legend, B.B. King and comedy stars such as Whoopi Goldberg and Denis Miller has continued to draw large and enthusiastic crowds.
The theater, working with TD Bank hosts everything from concerts, to comedy, to boxing, as well as other special events. They have also added a world class studio for visiting musicians, an upper level dance floor, mezzanine seating and skybar. A special addition is their new 450 seat V.I.P. Founder’s Room. This exciting area is styled after a 1920’s “speakeasy,” with private rooms.
The Paramount is a favorite venue for special events such as weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet 16s, fundraisers and corporate events.
Located in the very heart of Huntington, NY, right on New York Avenue, the Paramount is easily accessible via black car or limousine service. A Long Island airport car service will be sure to know the best drop off point, the shortest and fastest routes from JFK or LaGuardia to business meeting to dinner club to the Paramount and back, making your Long Island, New York experience one of the finest you can remember.
